River Flow Data

The diversity of the UK in terms of its climate, topography, geology and land use makes for a rich variety of river types and flow regimes. However, in a global context UK rivers are modest streams and the limited flow rates, particularly during drought episodes, make them especially vulnerable to the increasingly pervasive impact of water management and land-use change. This, together with the difficulties which attend river flow measurement in the extreme flow ranges especially, implies that care needs to be exercised when selecting river flow datasets for any given application. The reference, descriptive and spatial information accessible via the links below is augmented by more comprehensive material on the 'UK Gauging Station Network' pages (which include summaries of the data holdings) - the aim is to help maximise the utility of the raw flow data held in the National River Flow Archive.
